The Master-Plan For Making (Real) Money Online – For a Lifetime…

December 18th, 2008 · 90 Comments

Hey guys,

I just finished this video, explaining – in very simple terms, and from a “bird’s-eye view” - what I do to earn a pretty decent living from the net.

The purpose of this video is to help you SIMPLIFY the process and effectively deal with “info overload”. Many people reading this feel hopelessly stuck trying to figure what to do.

There’s so many options (conduit sites, msn loophole sites, software submissions, article marketing, video marketing, PPC, etc.). But your time each day is limited.

Hopefully this video will help you to clearly see things for what they are, and start making progress in the right direction.

Also – real quick, before we begin – tomorrow I’ll be telling you about a service you can optionally join to help you automate many of the aspects of “market testing” that I discuss in the video below. It is pricey, but if you’re at a point where you’re technically stuck and you just need something that works – what I’ll be sharing with you tomorrow is something that you may want to consider if it’s in your budget.

Enjoy the video:

Cheers!

-Chris

Once again, you may be lazy (which I highly doubt, but you are honest and the resulting credibility is such a striking contrast to some of the “gurus” – I think your Master Plan is great! It takes all the ideas flying around my head and gives it a solid foundation.

    Thanks for a great video!

    Mate,
Great info mate- I think they key is the focus to LEAVE stuff alone you don’t need!

thats why I stick to SEO- I loose my shirt in PPC (and it hurts!)

Chris, why didn’t I see this several years ago? Quite apart from the simple fact that you didn’t do this years ago. No more wheel spinning. Great video.

I always read your emails first because your info is always spot on (how’s that for putting pressure on you). I am implementing your advice, slowly.

Seasons greetings to you and yours and the readers of this blog. Here’s to an outstanding 2009.

    G’day Chris from Australia.

You know you are quite right. The problem is most people get bogged down in the detail and get fed up.

Analysis Paralysis sets in and we end up going around in circles.

So the secret is – focus – focus – focus

Now if I can only follow my own rules… ;-)

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for the video.

You seem to have hit the right spot (for me at anyway) as I have indeed purchased three of your products (all of which are tremendous) but have caused me to stop dead!

I have The Conduit Method, the VIP Confessions of a Lazy Super-Affiliate and the Reverse Niche Selection system – which has become an overload. Afterreading them, I just couldn’t makeup my mind as where to start and instead came to a FULL STOP.

I think after watching your video, that I will probably just use the Conduit method to start with and build “slowly” and then rinse and repeat when it starts working.

Best wishes and good fortune to all for the the New Year (2009)

    Merry Christmas

    Chris,

Thanks for the great video. Often, we get caught up trying to do so many different things that it is difficult to focus. But focusing on one or two things that you do well is the key. It took me a long time to realize that. Your video is a great reminder…

    Hi there Chris,

I loved the video and yes it does help to point in the right direction. My friend and I have been floundering a bit with overloaded brains and you helped put it into perspective. It seems that we were doing the right thing by looking at setting up the small site to bring in the smaller incomes for our ‘seed’ monies and we are also framing the bigger business framework as well. Thanks for outlining it in logical terms to stop me from getting lost.

  • 21 David // Dec 18, 2008 at 8:56 pm

it is a business and as soon as we realilze that is becomes solid. I spent a lot of time testing and now I am just building a business.

thanks for the honesty, great insight.

  • 23 Nando // Dec 18, 2008 at 9:22 pm

    Hey Chris,

This video totally and absolutely DID not suck:)

Your honesty about how this whole deal works is refreshing and much needed. I’ve been marketing for the last year and have dipped my hat into so many different areas with only a smattering of results.

Nothing really made any sense, until I found a method that worked for me, I enjoyed and continue to focus on.

The objective is to build a real business with real assets. The photo of all the products on the shelf is the perfect analogy to what all of us face today.

Despite that, we are not victims. We don’t have to buy all that stuff. The sooner an individual can move from the “buying phase” to the “selling phase”, the sooner the business will materialize.

Cheers and Hats off to ya!

  • 24 Vince @ Niche Market Supplies // Dec 18, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Great video Chris. This makes a lot of sense to me. I’ve built up a nice income from the “market testing” type sites – but building a real business is where it’s at.

It’s something I’ve been focusing on lately, and your video helps put things in perspective even more.

    Hey Chris!

    Good video. Simple but effective.

Sometimes I believe that we do a lot of things “back asswards”.

For example we listen to the cow poop about follow your passion when your passion may not be viable much less profitable.

Then you come along and inform us about “how about finding what people want and giving it to them”.

It’s this kind of clarity that webmasters are looking for.

Keep up the good work. Strike that! The great work!

It is a timely reminder for me to just to stick to a sensible plan. With so many info and with the web 2, there are more ways to do internet marketing and more work now. But really which ones first. So thanks for the video. Only a very few marketers teach to do market testing first in building a business. Some create a product first only to find out there is no market.

Chris I think you give right suggestions on right time. May be I am lucky…..

That’s what I was doing, I have done all methods you described, got a good hold on one, got my perfect market, after several testings

Now creating real valuable product. and planing to promote it like crazy and hold a market share in it with the big bulls….

rest my mini sites, conduit sites, one page sites generate initial revenue for setting this all up.

Thanks for confirmation what I am doing.

    Hey Chris,

Great video and I like the way you illustrate information overload with your master plan.

It is very common for new internet marketers to be overwhelmed with the tons of marketing channels and strategies to make money online… however, the most important thing is to focus on 1 strategy and if it works, expand on it.

    Thanks again for sharing Chris.

    Have a great day.

    Hi Chris,

Nice simple explanation perspective. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of “Occam’s Razor” (check it out on Wikipedia if not), but put in modern plain English it states:

“All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best.”

I keep it posted on my monitor and a few other places I look at often throughout the day. It has saved me more than once from getting involved in something up to my neck before looking at it from the “bird’s eye” view.

you didn’t explain how I could push a button and make millions =)

    I’m awake now…

I’ve come to slowly realize that all the money I’ve spent on new IM products has come from my sites that make money from adsense…

duh… I should be reinvesting in more articles and link building

and reinvest in creating more article sites and test different niches and markets, your video has helped me to see this aspect more clearly because every new site I make I think this is it, it has to succeed, when I should be more lazy like you and look at it as a test

Good birds-eye view Chris thanks, with this mind-set of testing it takes the pressure off and we may find a surprise goldmine in our testing

  • 45 Max // Dec 19, 2008 at 9:00 am

    Hi Chris

Enjoyed the video. Breath of fresh air.

Another Marketer whose list I’m on also recently made a good point, i.e. even with the market test stuff, a common problem is that what most people think is ‘enough effort’ to see some results, is frequently no where near enough to get any kind of result.

I think this may apply to me. I’ve made the mistake of writing the odd article (with a link back to one of my sites) envisaging at least one or two orders from affiliate offers promoted on the ‘linked to’ page, and ended up with nothing to show for the work.

My ‘take-away’ on this is that even what is attempted as a ‘mini project’ to test a notion, will often require a month or two of solid effort (assuming the Marketer is also holding down a full time job and only able to put in an hour or two a day) in order for the effort invested to bear some fruit.

Of course, if cash is available to outsource some / all of the effort, then a faster result could be on the cards.

    Cheers

    Max

  • 46 Cheryl // Dec 19, 2008 at 9:03 am

Your video really does say it all. Unfortunately, most brand new marketers don’t see this and won’t have the advantage of your brilliant overview. Because we all start out like one of the 6 blind men holding the tail of that elephant or the trunk or the ear trying to get a good picture of how this HUGE Internet “thing” is.

Internet marketing is a real business – not a jump in a get rich thing that so many newbies picture it. Many find out how hard it is and call it a scam and whine but these are the same folks who whine when anything gets tough.

Thanks again for your shooting from the hip common sense and for reminding me to stay on track.

    Chris,

When I first saw one of your ads, I thought, “It doesn’t cost much so I’ll give it a try.” What I found was that you have a gift of explaining things so that anyone can gain from the experience. Whenever you send out an email, I always open it to see what you have to say because I know it has value.

Your video regarding the value of a business is right. I think most of us fall trap to trying to make some money faster and repeatedly fail. It takes time to put the quick money idea aside and recognize that the indepth approach is the way to go.

    Thanks Chris.

    Chris,

I think this answers my post on the WF http://www.warriorforum.com/main-internet-marketing-discussion-forum/36646-help-me-spend-1000-a.html

I get an email from a ‘super affiliate’ about the latest ‘push button’ system which he claimed was free but it certainly is NOT.

Then I get an email from you about PGB, which isn’t cheap but looks amazing. You were honest and up front and will get my commission, the other lot will get an unsubsribe.

When are marketers going to realise that they have to start respecting peoples intelligence.

    Best wishes and merry xmas.

  • 56 Mom Working From Home // Dec 19, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Internet marketing is like a very large jigsaw which looks daunting when you first throw all the pieces on the table.

It’s probably worse because we tend to get pieces mixed up from other puzzles when we are trying to complete just one.

But, as you go along, you will realise which pieces don’t fit and then the real picture becomes clearer and clearer – and you build it faster and faster.

At times we need a quick ‘birds eye view’ like your video to help us to sort things out and put all those pieces in their right place.

  • 59 Larry // Dec 19, 2008 at 6:36 pm

    Chris,

I guess I have a question about this thoughtful video. Are you saying that we should or should not build a business around something like the Conduit Method. It seems like following a strategy like that would be more for creating the dozen of websites that you are saying only contribute in a minor way to your success. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your refreshing perspectives and innovative concepts.

  • 60 vplaw15 // Dec 19, 2008 at 8:56 pm

I am doing as you said – thanks for reinforcing my plan now and for 2009. I’m sticking my toes in to see if the water is warm – if it is then it’s ok to jump in. If not I haven’t invested to much time or money.

    Thanks for being real.

  • 61 Pete // Dec 20, 2008 at 6:59 pm

The Project Green Button service that this video was a lead up for looks interesting, but I have a real skepticism towards it since the people behind it are the same people who offer articlemarketingautomation – a website where I have a membership. This website has not been working whatsoever for a week – no articles are being distributed and often times the website won’t even come up. To make things worse, support simply ignores any emails. It’s hard to trust people with so many aspects of my business when they struggle to even get the one area right.

  • 62 Jim // Dec 20, 2008 at 7:37 pm

As soon as the green button site gets to 100% rather than 95% I will buy, because 95% will not get me up and running, like the fluff an incomplete info supplied at rankingloophole.com – has not gotten me up and running. It appears that the game plan is to give out enough partial info to keep the suckers spending more money coming back
for more. For the time being, I will just keep working on trying to get ONE complete rankingloophole site up and running. I have two free lancers from freelancers.com working on it .. and they have not been able to get it all together either.

  • 63 admin // Dec 20, 2008 at 8:50 pm

@Pete – that sounds off. I’ve only heard great things from my clients using AMA, and my own tests with the service worked as stated.

Here’s some user comments on PGB from an unbiased discussion thread:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/internet-marketing-product-reviews-ratings/37746-project-green-button.html

However, it is strange that the AMA site has been down. I’ll email Daniel about that to try and shed some light on the issue…

@Jim, regarding your comment about Ranking Loophole.

We sold a blueprint and an optional script to smooth the process. The process works as stated, as numerous of our members who put in the time to follow the process.

No, it wasn’t a magical button that would instantly create sites FOR you or create search engine authority FOR you.

    But we showed you how.

If you need clarification on the process, which works, please email us at contact@rankingloophole.com, or go to the resources page at:

    http://www.rankingloophole.com/resources/

Which includes ALL updates, extra videos, downloads, templates and everything we’ve released since launch.

    Email us for the user/pass.

The information we supplied was complete, not incomplete.

That’s why it’s been working for so many of our customers.

    -Chris

P.S. Often you’ll find that the reality of what you need to do is staring you in the face, and that the “missing piece” of the puzzle is nothing other than…

    …ACTION.

I really don’t know how we could possibly have been more clear about what to do.

Especially since, currently, we’ve released (at NO charge to our customers):

    * Numerous PDF guides to help clarify the various tasks

    * Almost 20 tutorial videos

    * A full-scale FAQ knowledgebase

And more – all based on user-request, and all un-advertised ADDITIONS to the course to make it more valuable for those who bought.

So your comment about “giving just enough info to sell something else” is, if I may –

    Total bullshit.

    Cheers

  • 64 admin // Dec 20, 2008 at 9:39 pm

    @Larry,

The conduit method is a great money-maker. So is using PPC to direct traffic straight to another merchant’s offer or CPA form.

In a sense it’s “indirect retailing” or traffic brokerage, which is a form of business.

But I define “business” as a central form of value that YOU provide and distribute.

The conduit method is really more of an interception strategy. You’re tapping into the efforts of a series of actual businesses and essentially “using” them for scraped profits.

But you’re not the one with leverage.

It’s the people with a client-base that make the real money.

That’s simply because you can sort of “reactivate” all of your past efforts, over and over again, as you communicate with your list.

Instead of waiting for the daily traffic flow to see what it brings.

Things like the conduit method, building a series of “small” sites and so on is a great way to determine what pays off.

Because then you can scale your efforts and build a real resource (and business) that doesn’t rely on Google’s ranking algo.

    Does that make sense?

Thanks Chris for the video. I guess research is probably one of the most important elements so you don’t mess up with the time you spend on something that might not work.

Just stick to one thing huh? then move on again and again.

Merry Xmas! and a safe one.

Quality – another level…. Taking me from the no idea, no focus and no real long term strategy to ‘real’ business.

    Thanks

  • 68 Stephan // Dec 22, 2008 at 10:07 am

Here is how I structured my biz according to Chris’s framework.

I have outsourced the mini sites, site reviews and market ‘testing” part to a full time web designer from bestjobs.ph @ $350 per month and he produces my mini sites, links them and drives traffic to them…

He even identifies and research markets for me, but mostly I give him the niche, he finds the products, creates the articles, content and site and get it indexed / ranking.

This leaves me free to 1. identify new markets 2. start focusing on expanding profitable niches allready discovered via the mini review sites into bigger projects.

So now I can concentrate on the business side of things and not get caught up in the time consuming effort of creating mini sites.

My advice for anyone out there, OUTSOURCE, you will double / tripple your efforts + time and allow you to focus on the BUSINESS that comes from your testing of the markets with the mini review sites…

The next step, outsource the BUSINESS part as well, once you have identified the market and came up with the product idea, why not outsource ALL of that as well and get other people to a. create the product, b. create the website, c. do support, d. provide content etc etc…

This leaves you in a position of IDEA GENERATOR only, and that is the part I realy enjoy. You just generate the ideas and get someone else to impliment them.

  • 69 Niche Affiliate Marketing // Dec 23, 2008 at 1:23 pm

    Chris,

Let me tell you a story how I made 100k by NOT following your eBook but by following one basic advice of “focus on one thing and one method”.

I bought your “lazymarketer” eBook thinking, I will get into the business of affiliate marketing using mini content sites. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stick to this method for too long because I wanted traffic fast and link building doesn’t excite me (because of slow traffic or no traffic most times). So, I tried doing PPC again. Hold behold I found my first product and set of keywords that worked. I just expanded from there onwards into this one niche. I spent close to 50k with PPC to make 100k+ in the last 7-8 months.

Now, I’m thinking to myself, I know this niche worked for me and I already know what works and what doesn’t in this niche. So, I shouldn’t be relying on PPC solely anymore and should make an authority site.

That thought led me to come to your blog again (I do read your blog every now and them just to see what you’re up to). After watching your video, I’m very sure now that I should launch an authority site in my niche.

My only trouble is building links and this is why I stopped using the mini-sites method as described in the “thelazymarketer”. In your book you explained to outsource link building (btw I did try Linkvana too. I created a auto insurance site and used Linkava for link building but didn’t see any results. I sent close $500 with them. I also hired few people to do link building at Elance. same thing no results. ).
You see why I got discouraged from link building method and went into PPC. But I want to try this methid again.

How should I go about creating inbound links for my new (to be) authority site? Articles submissions, blog networks…?

More importantly, how long should I wait before I see the results if I chose one method.

Sorry for the long post Chris. BTW, I mean to say…

“but by following YOUR one basic advice of “focus on one thing and one method”.

  • 71 Luke // Dec 24, 2008 at 6:32 am

    Chris,

I honestly don’t think that I’ll ever own an info product. I’ve looked into it in detail. I tried to direct myself in that area but couldn’t get any enthusiasm.

I do offline work for people – so I have clients with whom I develop a relationship.

I’m sure I could make myself do the actions of outsourcing creation of ebook/Mini site/Sales page/Email pre-sell and followups. But I just don’t have the interest in being an owner.

Other people must be like me.

I wish you’d talk about some “Real Business” method that doesn’t involve creating or owning an info product.

I understand the logic of being at the centre of the value network and giving selling opportunity to many affiliates like Google with Adsense or any Clickbank merchant with their affiliates.

But my heart ain’t in it. So some of us might have to be stuck with just” direct marketing as a way to build wealth.

Your list building method – it seemed – also wasn’t workable without creating or owning a product. That was surprising to me.

    cheers,

    Luke

This is a reply to post 62

First of all: How dare you to declare that the MSN Loophole it was delivered in “a partial information to keep the suckers spending more money coming back for more?”
How dare you to call Chris and Dave “suckers”.?

Chris already replied explaining all the resources that is available to all Loopholers, but I want reiterate his words.
Which other product online has his creator coming back for more HELP to his customers instead for their money?

Let me explain you something “Mr. Complain” : The MSN Loophole like others good products online is not suitable to people that don’t take ACTION.

I’m a real proof of this. Do you know why?

Eleven weeks ago I was a woman that only used a computer to check her emails and pay her bills online. I decided to get into IM. At the present, I am studying at least 12 hours every day.
All my blogs are up and running and my money sites are almost done. I did all by myself.

In a weekend where I was really stuck I emailed Dave.
We exchanged emails all day long until late that night (it was a Saturday) .He didn’t stop
until he finally got a solution for my problem. Who else is doing this online?

After getting all my blogs ready I noticed that server was down. It occurred twice. I did some research and find out that it was necessary to change of server. I changed to a hosting company that belongs to Hostgator. Their transfer was free but after 2 days of misunderstanding I finally got the explanation that the transfer is “ as is”. Meaning they put all data in one place and you do the rest or you pay them $ 75 for every half hour .The estimate was between 500$ to 700$. Of course, I didn’t have the money.

I searched online, read, learned, tested, made mistakes but got all my blogs spread in the network up and running in 27 hours. It took me 27 hours but I got the job done save the money and learned a lot! I’m working in my MSN project for more than 3 weeks now. By the time that will be complete will be 4 weeks.

And you never read any complain from me. Chris and Dave told us that the MSN loophole wasn’t for newbies. But I’m a go getter that’s why Success will be my surname(lol)

A little detail: I Speak five languages but English is not my first one.. I was born in Brazil, Lived 10 years in Switzerland and came to USA 7 years ago. I never spoke any English before coming to your country. As I said I’m a go getter! Stop complaining and ACT.
    FAST!

You, Americans have a beautiful country with a lot of opportunities. Don’t take for granted what a lot people would kill for.

Sorry for being so responsive, Chris. It’s my “Latin side” speaking too loud! ;-)

A wonderful Christmas to you and your family.
    Cindy

    Cindy,

I like your enthusiasm. AM is basically what Chris explained is his previous emails. It’s a boring process of creating sites, testing and then repeating it. You build your income as your refine the process. Some people will start making money in couple months and for some it make take 4-5 months. It all depends on what niche you go into. I made a site in a tech/programming niche, that only produced me $50 a months after 5-6 months of work. Then I went into a niche, that made me as much as $800 a day at one point in 3-4 months. AM is not about working harder, It’s about working smarter as Chris explains.

    God Bless you all…

  • 75 Dean // Dec 28, 2008 at 9:45 pm

    Cindy,

I have to agree with you with your response to good old Jim in post number 62. Jim, there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t set the whole thing up yourself, I’m not super technical and I did it from scratch following the blueprint and the faq videos.

If the Freelancers cannot do it I suggest you hire different Freelancers or do it yourself.

In a niche seemingly full of gurus that don’t actually help people make money online, Dave Kelly and Chris Rempel stand out head and shoulders above the crowd.

Also, any questions I have had have been answered every time either by Chris or Dave.

At the end of the day, you can come up with excuses why you don’t do something or have a negative mindset that is predisposed towards assuming everything is a con, but it’s simply not the case. If you choose to believe this then that’s your call but it’s not the right one.

You’re also completely wrong about this being something that sucks you into a never-ending buying cycle. Anything you do online is going to require an investment at some level. At some point you have to spend money online if you want to treat it as a business. Why should this be any different? The investment in any tools you require is nominal vs the potential returns. You need to stop looking at things from the perspective that you are constantly being conned. Perhaps your viewpoint is valid in that you have possibly been burnt in the past by previous purchases, but I can testify that anything I have bought by Chris or Dave has always been top notch and worth the money.

    Over and out.

    Dean

Hi Chris, I have been on your email list for a while now and thanks to you I may get off the ground this year. I have found it difficult to get started, as I have not been focused. I will be building more hubs on hubpages this year, but only to test responses, as I have written 31 articles in the last 4 months and this is the only thing I have been doing. Your video was very helpful and I will be checking markets out with my articles and investigating niches with the view to using my small stuff to find interested buyers.

  • 78 admin // Jan 3, 2009 at 1:54 pm

@Luke (post #71) – The key word in the term “info product” is PRODUCT.

And product just means something that is exchanged for some form of value, usually money.

“Real business” always just boils down to the fundamentals. Supply, demand and relationships with clients.

I don’t care what you sell or how you do it – those three factors will be the bloodline of any legitimate business.

The fact is, I actually honed my skills as an internet marketer (particularly with newsletter communications and SEO) with “real world” products and clients.

Products & services ranging from snowboard simulators to merchant services to discount shipping brokers to downhill skateboards – that was my “proving ground”.

    And the basics still apply.

Demand (appeal), followed by Supply, followed by Relationship.

List-building, affiliate recruitment, SEO, PPC, forum marketing and so on – all the “infoproduct” strategies applied just as effectively to real-world stuff as well.

There are some variations and adjustments that need to be made to accomodate the market, but the fundamentals of internet leverage and communication are ALL the same.

In fact, it’s a lot easier to justify perceived value with something that’s tangible.

Furthermore, being that the basics of internet marketing will act as an instant “stimulus” for any real business (especially working the client list effectively, which is the most commonly overlooked asset), anyone who “gets” internet marketing has an immediate edge over any business that doesn’t.

OR – information and proven methods that can be sold or leveraged to create some VERY good money by working with already-established companies with some decent existing revenue.

The internet (and the effective usage of it) is still “twilight zone” material for the majority of real-world entrepreneurs.

They may have some grasp of it – but few understand how powerful it can be.

So I guess my point is that there’s a reason WHY infoproduct marketing is successful when certain steps are followed.

And that “why” can be applied to most other business types and business models, with similar effectiveness.

    Take care,

    -Chris

    Hi Chris,
Love the vieo espcially the hamster standing still. Ive been toying with the internet as the way to make a living for two years now. Looking at various methods and options and I now know the following:
    a) The only time success come before work is in the dictionary (Quote from Tommy Hopkins). Or don’t try and build a business between bites of pizza. Would you do that in the bricks and mortarworld? You need to try a number of methods before you find one that matches the way you work.

    b) Once you find a method you like implement it and stick with it. But dont expect to be a millionaire overnight, look at it as a long term investment. If you build the correct foundations now you can build a business that will last and continue generating income though it might need to be tweaked in the longer term.

@Chris, you claim to be lazy, but I suspect you still put a 60 hour week every now and then….

    Regards

    Tank

Great video Chris! I remember when I first started out; trying to focus on too many things and quickly getting overwhelmed.

I’m trying to stay focused and start with a few mini-sites to gauge how best to continue, but I still have a tendency to over-plan and think too much about where I want to end up, rather than on what I’m trying to do to eventually get there.

Sometimes I feel like I’m getting swamped by the idea of product creation and outsourcing and such; yes that’s something I need to think about when the time comes, and I guess it’s good to have in the long-term “plan” and be heading towards, but since I’m not there yet, I need to try and draw my focus away from that, and in to what I’m doing “now”.

Maybe everything just feels complicated and far off to me now because I’m focusing on it more that I need to at the moment; but will only seem easier and within reach once I’ve seen initial success.

    Thanks again,
    Daniel

  • 84 Daniel // Jan 16, 2009 at 8:42 am

Oooo, something I forgot to ask when I last commented. When building mini-sites and using the Adwords KW Tool to come up with product-focused keywords, what happens if it doesn’t come up with any decent product keywords for any of the major products in a niche you’re targeting? Does that mean there isn’t enough demand for it? Should you move onto a better niche?

For instance, I followed your registry example from Confessions and searched for product keywords out of curiosity, and there were loads; but when I searched for keywords for various anti-adware/spyware, there was either very little, or none.

  • 86 The Magic Of Testing // Jan 21, 2009 at 2:45 am

    Hey Chris…

I don’t think it’s really the brain shutting off when they first learn about Internet Marketing… I think it’s just that most people don’t know what actually makes a business tick… and the fundamentals of becoming a person who can build a business are difficult. I bet if we looked at the list of books you’ve read, it would include titles like “Atlas Shrugged”, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and a bunch of others.

There’s a person you have to become before business building really gets into your brain… and that person is, for most people, something we are not born with, but something we have to develop, and that takes time, and work, and commitment to a process.

So, if there was one thing I would add, I would say that people should be working (at least in the beginning) as much on themselves as they are on their business… developing into the kind of person who is willing to test a whole bunch of things, find out what does and doesn’t work, set the ego aside about “but this should sell well?!” and once that stuff gets out of the way, then business really gets built.

    What do you think?

I do think this is a great video though. A very good topical overview, and one that might frustrate people because they want the how-to’s, but they need to see the forest before trying to get the best trees.

    Well done Chris!

    Warmest,
    Jonathan

Thanks for responding to my post. That makes sense.

I see now that product basically means “(be the one) taking the money”.

So yes in my offline SEO/consulting work I have a product in some senses.
