Hi Chris

Thanks for responding to my post. That makes sense.

I see now that product basically means "(be the one) taking the money".

So yes in my offline SEO/consulting work I have a product in some senses.

I can tell you I've had a much larger sense of financial security since I started having a "product".

cheers,

Luke

Hey Chris...

I don't think it's really the brain shutting off when they first learn about Internet Marketing... I think it's just that most people don't know what actually makes a business tick... and the fundamentals of becoming a person who can build a business are difficult. I bet if we looked at the list of books you've read, it would include titles like "Atlas Shrugged", "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and a bunch of others.

There's a person you have to become before business building really gets into your brain... and that person is, for most people, something we are not born with, but something we have to develop, and that takes time, and work, and commitment to a process.

So, if there was one thing I would add, I would say that people should be working (at least in the beginning) as much on themselves as they are on their business... developing into the kind of person who is willing to test a whole bunch of things, find out what does and doesn't work, set the ego aside about "but this should sell well?!" and once that stuff gets out of the way, then business really gets built.

What do you think?

I do think this is a great video though. A very good topical overview, and one that might frustrate people because they want the how-to's, but they need to see the forest before trying to get the best trees.

Well done Chris!

Warmest,
Jonathan

Oooo, something I forgot to ask when I last commented. When building mini-sites and using the Adwords KW Tool to come up with product-focused keywords, what happens if it doesn't come up with any decent product keywords for any of the major products in a niche you're targeting? Does that mean there isn't enough demand for it? Should you move onto a better niche?

For instance, I followed your registry example from Confessions and searched for product keywords out of curiosity, and there were loads; but when I searched for keywords for various anti-adware/spyware, there was either very little, or none.

Great video Chris! I remember when I first started out; trying to focus on too many things and quickly getting overwhelmed.

I'm trying to stay focused and start with a few mini-sites to gauge how best to continue, but I still have a tendency to over-plan and think too much about where I want to end up, rather than on what I'm trying to do to eventually get there.

Sometimes I feel like I'm getting swamped by the idea of product creation and outsourcing and such; yes that's something I need to think about when the time comes, and I guess it's good to have in the long-term "plan" and be heading towards, but since I'm not there yet, I need to try and draw my focus away from that, and in to what I'm doing "now".

Maybe everything just feels complicated and far off to me now because I'm focusing on it more that I need to at the moment; but will only seem easier and within reach once I've seen initial success.

Thanks again,
Daniel
