Affiliate Marketing – The SMART Way

Super-Affiliates Work Smarter – Not Necessarily Harder…

Affiliate Marketing – The SMART Way header image 2

One Site. 89,790 Targeted Visitors So Far This Month. Zero Effort. Zero Advertising.

February 16th, 2009 · 103 Comments

And it’s been several months since the site went live…

If you haven’t already guessed – I’m talking about a site that sells a digital product, where basically ALL of the traffic volume is generated by the affiliate force.

And it’s just one site of several. Another of my product sites (just a one-pager salesletter, actually) has seen exactly 15,874 visitors so far this month, and it was released in 2007. Over 2 years ago, and still getting about 1,000 visitors a day. Passively.

I do nothing beyond my initial one-time effort, aside from the occasional split-test.

Still another of my products (in a really weird niche) has received 6,912 visitors so far this month, from a mixture of affiliate traffic, word-of-mouth and organic traffic.

And that’s just some of my more substantial examples.

If you can’t see the power of affiliate leverage for generating traffic, building huge opt-in lists and – obviously – driving sales, then you’re really missing the whole POINT of internet marketing.

The reason why there’s so much opportunity online is because you can harness other people’s talent. Other people’s resources. Other people’s time – and even their advertising investment.

In fact, when it comes to traffic – running an affiliate program is the best deal going. Especially for digital product vendors, because your distribution and “inventory” costs are non-existent. It’s the ultimate traffic strategy, hands-down.

It’s also one of the highest-leverage, easiest and fastest ways to build the foundation of a REAL business. One that can create a dependable (and potentially very exciting) livelihood for you. And one that can be sold off for anywhere from 10 to 24 months earnings (or much more, depending on what you sell, and your client base).

So with all that said – why aren’t more people doing this?

That’s a good question…

I know people who’ve spent literally half a day making a product that they later turned around and made over SIX FIGURES with in a few months time.

Hell, even my own ”conduit method” report is something like 14 pages long and as of tonight I’ve sold exactly 3,914 copies of it at $14.95 a pop (and that doesn’t include the backend) since it was launched.

(Took me about an hour or two to put together.)

I could go on and on.

In contrast, I’ve built affiliate sites with over 300+ pages of unique content that haven’t even come close to generating the kind of traffic, sales and revenues that I have by taking the simpler road – with far less effort – and creating a single offer that affiliates can sell.

And not only that – I’ve also built my “buyer lists” by doing so, across a few well-chosen niches, into the tens of thousands.

Believe me – that does NOT happen unless you’re either leveraging affiliates, or spending major cheese on advertising. It ain’t gonna happen by building squidoo lenses or submitting articles to EzineArticles.com…

So here’s the deal:

Very shortly I’m launching my next VIP report, called “How to Create a HOT-Selling, 100% Unique Product in as Little as 24 Hours”.

Here’s some of the things it will cover…

* How to CHOOSE YOUR MARKET (the most important step)

* What exactly to SELL to that market (also highly important)

* High-value products that you can EASILY create in 24 hours or less

* How to “use” someone else’s product to sell on your own – exclusively

* How to make it sell like crazy (advanced selling/copy tactics that are simple, yet profound)

* A simple, easy-to-follow and highly effective “product launch sequence” that you can use in ANY niche, any market

* How to recruit tons of motivated affiliates

* Think beyond “ebooks” – I cover 5 different ways to create digital products that deliver major value, that are a lot easier and faster to create than a book – and that you can sell for a mint

* How one company simply sells organized facts (to save other people time) for upwards of $3000 per DOWNLOAD.

And more.

Stay tuned – and since I’m just in the final stages of wrapping up the report, if you have any last minute questions or requests about how to successfully build and launch a digital product – please post it below as a comment.

Cheers

-Chris

Chris, I have an ebook I launched a few months ago and have sold a few hundred copies in a sexual health niche. All my traffic efforts have been through Adwords. Problem is, conversion has decreased lately and I’m now losing money on the front-end, so I can’t afford to pay for advertising for much longer.

The only reason I haven’t launched an affiliate program for this is because the conversion rate is only about 1% on a $29.95 product. Would you recommend starting an affiliate program now regardless, or wait until I can somehow increase the conversion rate?

    Hi Chris,

I’m looking forward to the new report.

I think where I get hung up the most is on niche selection. So many choices, so many options. It’s really difficult to select one thing and able to stick with it. I believe many of us are faced with the same problem. It will be interesting to see what you say about that in your report.

Many of the ways to test markets are often rather ambiguous and poorly defined. They often leave much to the imagination and so it all comes down to probably testing the market’s first to really know if they would be profitable or not.

I don’t think creating the product is as much of an issue. It’s that first decision that’s the hardest for me. This is really hard to admit, but I find that many of us if not most of us are more ‘employee’ oriented than ‘entrepreneurs’. Given a job or a project to do at work is relatively easy when we are given specific direction. But left on her own it’s easy to flounder….

Anyway, looking forward to the report. Hopefully you’ll be able to help with the niche selection aspect of product development.

Rod – have you been split-testing with different sales processes?

In general you want to have a good conversion rate before recruiting affs, but keep in mind that there’s still the whole world of organic SEO, forums, email lists, etc and so on for traffic sources.

Not all affiliates are PPC only.

There’s a full gamut of traffic sources that you leverage when you have an affiliate program.

Anyway, another point is that a “good” conversion will vary from market to market (and even keyword to keyword).

1% might be pretty poor in affluent markets, but in mainstream ones it can be good.

    There’s no set standard.

What’s MORE important is your visitor value and average value per client.

Also, never forget that by simply lining up some related backend offers (your own or aff), you can easily increase your overall client value, which therefore greatly increases your visitor value – which then allows you more “room” for:

    * Ad spend
    * Affiliate commission levels, and
    * Cash flow

That’s really a key part of it.

It will also help you filter your communications more effectively, since you’ll know who your “spenders” are amongst your customers.

They usually follow the same pattern as time goes on.

So to get back to the point – YES – I would not hold back on the affiliate program any longer.

Often times your affiliates will find effective pre-sell methods and so on that will make their conversion rates jump up considerably – as opposed to simply sending traffic straight from PPC.

As for you – start performing drastic split tests against your control with isolated traffic. Increasing response rates should not be that difficult at a $29.95 price point.

Try short vs long, text vs video, ugly vs “pro”, etc.

You WILL eventually find what’s working best.

    Hi Norm,

I’ve been very specific in the course in regards to market selection and what to compete with.

In regards to “too many options” – you’ve simply got to make a move on something that you know you can complete.

There’s 30 million things I could do right now, too.

    But I don’t.

I simply focus on selling things that are in line with the momentum I’ve already created.

    It’s not about “getting sidetracked”.

    It’s about simply CHOOSING something.

In the offline world this doesn’t really exist. You can’t have a store that sells everything.

You CHOOSE something, then you follow through and see how it goes.

    The same applies online.

Ha, after reading a few of your blog posts and other forum posts around the net last week I came to an amazing conclusion (in the shower like usual).

It was actually just what you’re describing(following the selling of your own product aspect of Affiliate Marketing), I can’t wait for this report as I am sure it will help to patch up all the holes/questions I have involving my plan. Get this report done quick!!! I don’t know how long I will be able to wait : P

Besides you have always given me the information to succeed in the past I can only hope this time the same holds true.

Cheers to another amazing V.I.P. report that I have still yet to read!

  • 6 primuskannan // Feb 17, 2009 at 2:36 am

You have got a sure shot bestseller judging by the teasers.

would like to see the total investment a fellow needs to implement this report.

and I am sure you would have covered it a check list or resource list for one to go through before launch.

and the last the best marketplaces to launch a product and thats all :-)

  • 7 Tom // Feb 17, 2009 at 9:03 am

What I’d like to see is how to determine the commission % that I should be paying the affiliates. I keep on reading that the more the better, give them 75%, but isn’t that a bit much for a $40 product?

I’ve created a multimedia info product, took several months and wasn’t cheap, so I’m a bit unsure on how to determine the affiliate commission.

Another interesting topic would be whether to approach the better affiliates in the specific market niche, or just put it up onto an affiliate site and let anyone have a go.

  • 8 Mikael Rieck // Feb 17, 2009 at 9:04 am

@Rod, did you ever consider raising your price on your product? By offering more perceived value through text (and bonus products) you might be able to increase your profits substantially. Who know… maybe people will buy your product for twice the price if you can make them understand the value of it.

    Just a suggestion.

  • 9 Chris G // Feb 17, 2009 at 9:04 am

    Hey Chris,

$58,514.30!! Damn, on a $14.95 product!! I just need to do a quick 5K by Mar 30th. I have ‘almost’ everything I need but perhaps that “simple, easy-to-follow and highly effective “product launch sequence” that you can use in ANY niche, any market–This has been my biggest sticking point (and stopping me cold from launching my own sites and products) I must have $25K worth of ‘crap’ I’ve bought in the past 3 years. Much is still ‘saleable’ in one form or another.

Step by Step stuff seems the most important to me to stay on track.

How much detail will there be on this ‘Co.’ that sell organized facts? (Sounds like a major player like D&B, etc)

PS: I’m a very happy “Conduit Method” owner myself. Pretty step-by-step itself. Thanks,

    Chris G

    Hi Chris,

I own a couple of your other reports so I know that you know your stuff. Hence looking forward to this new report. Quick question. Will you cover writing an effective sales letter/copywriting and providing promo material to affiliates?

    Thanks.

  • 11 Rod // Feb 17, 2009 at 9:15 am

    Chris -

I’ve done some split testing, though not enough as I should have.

I’m aware there’s other traffic sources than PPC, I was just concerned that affiliates would test out my offer, see that it doesn’t convert as well as the competition, and move on – then I’ve lost my chance with them for good.

Agreed – visitor value is the most important metric, the backend could definitely be improved. I have a recently added membership site which should help dramatically.

Good point on affiliates using pre-sell methods, hadn’t thought of that.

Thanks for the advice Chris, will get an affiliate program launched asap.

PS: Love your VIP reports, I’m in the process of promoting my first conduit site using Linkvana and 3Waylinks based on your recommendations.

    Mikael -

I originally priced it at $19.95, then found $29.95 sold better. Also recently tested $39.95 but conversion was low on that. But it’s probably because I didn’t change anything except the price, need to pack in more “stuff” and increase the perceived value. Thanks for the input.

It is also essential that resources and directions should be provided in the report. Everybody knows he should have traffic to his website or have a list. Have you discovered a more effective way? That is what is needed. I have used traffic as an example.

    Thanks.

Rod, if you have a well planned campaign, with a couple of hot back-end offers, you can lose money on your front-end and still laugh all the way to the bank. Lots of successful businesses are modeled on loss-leader front-ends and high-profit upsells.

  • 16 John // Feb 17, 2009 at 10:04 am

Great stuff. Look forward to the new report.

I have a very hot market that I’ve been using PPC to gather a ton of clicks but conversions are less than 1%.

I believe the biggest reason is because people are looking for free information on the topic (male health).

At the same time, I need to test the sales page more as well as the keywords I’m using.

But I would like to find affiliates to flood the site with traffic to see how the market will react with large numbers instead of the nickle and dime stuff I’ve been doing.

    Regards,
    John

Could you include some tips/resources on how to set up an affiliate program so we don’t get bogged down in the tech side of doing that?

For example, how you set up your script with Paypal to pay affiliates for referrals to your front-end products. Also, alternative(s) if we don’t/can’t give 100% to affiliates.

    Looking forward to this!

  • 22 Jeremy // Feb 17, 2009 at 10:40 am

    How to find affiliates?

That has to be the biggest, toughest problem.

I can look and see what the best sellers are, buy them, read them, and make a better version.

I can make a website and write decent sales copy.

But how in the world does one “get” all these affiliates?

Where did you get yours? Were you a ‘guru’ first, and then were able to sell?

Did you have a big content/authority site first?

It’s a chicken and the egg problem–so how does one jumpstart that process?

  • 23 Aaron // Feb 17, 2009 at 10:42 am

Hi Chris, big fan of your work. You say it how it is and come out with sensible priced reports that give you the fact :)

I personally have success in creating my own products and leveraging off affiliates.

I spend a great deal of time creating excellent resources for my affiliates because this is what keeps them motivated. In fact the affiliates resources are just as, if not, more important that the product offer itself :)

Look forward to seeing your next release!

    Kind Regards,
    Aaron.

I didn’t go through the response Chris so if someone else already mentioned this then that goes ditto for me. :-)

I didn’t see on your list of things covered the method of distribution. In other wards using CB as the processing center or do you recommend a particular third party software so you have more control over the process or better yet if the pro’s and cons of each then tell us what you recommend and why.

And if using a service like CB then how does one get their product listed at the top so affiliate see it as “the thing” to promote. Maybe this part is already covered in your “How to recruit tons of motivated affiliates” section, but if not then info on how to do this would be nice.

When is this report be available? Thx.

  • 28 Ilya // Feb 17, 2009 at 12:19 pm

    Chris,

This is my first comment on your blog so firstly I want to say thank you for all the great information you’ve put out there! I’ve bought and gone through a few of your reports and many of your posts on WF. That was about a month ago and my business has been up about 20% because I’ve been implementing a lot of different ideas I’ve gathered from you.

Ok with that out of the way! ;)

Affiliates are the next step for me, and I’m very happy you wrote up this post. After 3 months of testing I have my copy and product converting at a wonderful 4%. There’s so much traffic to be had, and since I’ve been trying to gather it on my own here in the past couple of months it’s not a very smart way of going about things. I want to built an affiliate army! But this is all new to me as it is to many others too. Can you go into more detail perhaps on the steps that need to be taken to market to and grab affiliates?

    Much Thanks Chris in Advance!

    Ilya

  • 29 Ben // Feb 17, 2009 at 12:20 pm

Chris, I love that you’re going to cover quick and easy product creation.

That’s been my biggest stumbling block.

  • 30 Patrick // Feb 17, 2009 at 12:26 pm

    Hi Chris,

I read through the other responses, but I did not see anyone asking the following question(s), so here it goes…

As you probably know, I’ve been doing this online marketing thing for well over 8 years now. I have a total some wealth of nothing to show for my efforts.

I tried the affiliate thing for a couple of years (having an affiliate program for my products that is), but I never got much more than a list full of affiliates that never promoted or promoted very little.

In fact, out of 100 affiliates in my systems, I might have one that was “trying” to promote, but I could tell be the numbers they simply did not know how to do it properly. (nor do I so cannot help them either)

My question is, how in the heck do you find and/or get affiliates that know what they’re doing and have the where-with-all to get the job done?

My products always have a commission setting of 50% and higher, but that never seems to make much of a difference.

If you cannot get the top affiliates (super affiliates) to promote your products in the first place, it really is a waste of time and effort, not to mention the horrible let down you feel after several weeks, maybe months of effort creating a product, websites, email auto-responder series, and everything else that goes with it.

It’s surprising I’ve stuck at it for over 8 years now, and am on the verge of going back to a day job just to start feeling useful to my family again. Thank God my wife works hard and allows me to keep trying this nonsense, otherwise it would have been over long ago.

So, there is the question: How do you find and “convince” the super affiliates (the ones who really bring in the true money) to promote your product?

Now, you also have to remember that most of us cannot show these big fancy paychecks and ClickBank incomes like someone who’s made it. So the next question is: How do you convince people your product is worth their time, effort and money without these things?

I’ve got a hundred more, you know where I’m at if you need more questions to chew over. Thanks, Patrick

  • 31 Hamish // Feb 17, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    Chris,

Looking forward to your new report – I hope it’ll be as good as your others.

I have seen a few e-books that go into details of how to write your own e-book, report, whatever and then finish up with “.. and now stick it up on Clickbank..” or words to that effect.

I suppose, once you’ve got a few reports under your belt, it’s easy to forget what a daunting task that could be. So – in addition to the creative stuff – I would be interested to see the mechanics of loading your product onto Clikbank or PAyDotCom, or wherever and maybe some suggestions as to what level of detail you need to go into for making sales pages, banners, sample e-mails available.

Possibly some good recommendations for graphics services, copywriters etc. would also be useful.

    Best Regards,

    Hamish

This post is for David Norden. I wasn’t going to reply, but it’s still bothering me two hours later, so I’m going to say it…

David, that kind of thinking is exactly what will prevent you from being very successful online and is one of the things I don’t understand with people and online businesses – they think it should all be free.

But it doesn’t make any sense. For example, let’s say you open a McDonald’s. Surely, you’re going to expect to have a monthly payment for the building. And try telling the electric company you don’t want to pay an ongoing cost for the electricity.

An online business really isn’t that much different these days – there are going to be ongoing costs – hosting, autoresponders, shopping cart providers, trade journals, domains, etc. – factor them in to the cost of doing business.

Sorry for the rant, it just bothers me when people think everything online should be free – you’re going to pay one way or another… I find it’s a lot cheaper and far more profitable to just pay with money (vs time, frustration, learning the hard way)

    Chris… and fellow VIP Fans…

Allow me to rant for just a moment because I know for a FACT that Chris will sit here and totally understate how friggin good his products are or how productive they can be.

If you’ve purchased any of his VIP reports and [keywords here] PUT THEM TO USE, then you know without a shadow of doubt, Chris is the deal and he provides rock solid advice.

All of that is a given!

I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Chris a little better from using his reports and communicating with him.

I can tell you this, his service has been “KEY’ to my online success to date.

I am in the process of launching an online guitar instructional course. Chris has played a hug role in it and doesn’t even know it. If you see this one Chris… “hats off to you”.

His advice has caused my “Opt-Ins” to nearly double for the guitar course and my affiliate products (in other niches) have seen huge increases in conversions.

If I had to choose a few tools for “authentic” online success without a crap-pot full of hoopla and hype, Chris and Dave Kelly are without doubt two of my top picks!

If you’re here by chance and wondering if you should buy Chris’s VIP reports, my honest opinion is without doubt… YES!

  • 45 Louis // Feb 17, 2009 at 9:26 pm

    Hi Chris,

I’m looking forward to your report. I have 5 information products online now. Two of them sell fairly well, the other three don’t sell very well because I haven’t had much time to work on promoting the products. The mistake I’ve made so far is not concentrating on developing affiliates for the products.

There’s only so much time in the day to drive traffic to my products on my own…such as write articles, tweak adwords campaigns, build backlinks, etc. Not to mention the work can be compared to digging ditches; it’s easy to get burned out with it. Like you mentioned the key to this game is to leverage the work of other people.

  • 46 HorseRacingBook // Feb 17, 2009 at 10:33 pm

    Hey Chris

I can’t wait to see your report. All your reports are so insightful and informative. I like the fact that you don’t “spin” the information but just lay it out like it is.

I have one informational ebook for sale on line and it does fairly well but it is modestly priced at $7. I plan to add some more products and websites in the same niche in the near future.

I hope to be adding an affiliate program to the new products.

  • 47 G.from Wealthy Affiliate Review // Feb 17, 2009 at 11:19 pm

Chris, looks like the same HQ stuff you delivered till now, will take you up on that for sure.

Now to some I recently noticed, specially in the MMO niche.

Lot’s of great products are offered, with a lot of content, videos, audios, PDF’s etc. for REASONABLE prices.

Of course I know that those are entry products for a sales funnel, anyhow they did get a whole lot better then in the past.
I think about “Get Money From Google” and others

How you can keep up with those full blown blueprints for $27, $47 bucks ? as a NEW Publisher ? Even if you have a background, the competition became heavier lately.

What you think about the way to offer a lot of small, cheap reports in stead of one bigger report ? Difficult part is then to include Affiliates, where the only way is how you do it, over the 7dollar script giving 100% to them and sell your own stuff over the funnel.

Anyway you do it, it’s not that easy I guess. After eBay cut ebook sales we have to rely more on JV’s, affiliates, and all the other traffic resources to make sales.

    don’t wanna sound negative, OK.

    G.
P.S. and I’m a huge fan of yours

    Hi Chris,
Sounds interesting. Admire your writing style, directness and integrity shown in products I’ve purchased in the past, so look forward to seeing what you come up with. Apart from the important strategies you speak of, I hope you also cover the essential steps relating to the technical ABC of setting up the affiliate program and delivery of product etc. (While I imagine I can produce a stunning product, (well half decent) I find the technical elements involved difficult to understand, although they are probably simple once you know how.) I hate ebooks that leave out vital steps!!! So please remember we are all deficient, – just on different topics!
    Regards, John.

  • 56 Anne // Feb 19, 2009 at 11:12 am

First, thanks Chris for fantastic content as ever.

Patrick, here’s my advice to you. 1) Get a part-time job so you help out your wife and make yourself feel better.

That cuts down the time for IM, so 2) you will make yourself focus on the stuff that makes a difference.

    3) Liberate yourself by doing a reality check on your expectations. Is your plan ‘I have to be a fantastic success really fast or else I am a failure’, or is it ‘I know this will grow in time because it is a plan that works. I’m in this for the long-haul.’

    4) Unchain yourself from your desk and take time with your wife and family. They are the centre of your life.

I am a mother, with household to run and part-time job. I find it hard to put in more than 10 – 12 hours a week. But I’m doing it!

I make plenty of mistakes, and waste time, there’s plenty of room for improvement. How do I live with this imperfection and slow rate of progress? I am earning money, and with the wisdom got from Chris and other marketers, I know my plan to replace that day job will work.

    All the best to you!

  • 60 What Sells On eBay // Feb 20, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Can you please include more information about how you specifically do split testing… software recommendations, etc. One of the concerns I have is using software on a site (home page) that already gets a significant amount of search traffic. How do you avoid having Google consider what you are doing (showing two or more pages to different visitors) as cloaking? I don’t want to jeopardize my existing search engine rankings.

  • 61 admin // Feb 20, 2009 at 6:14 pm

    It’s coming very, very soon.

This one will be a hybrid of “ebook” and “video”.

    Complete with note-taking sections.

I’m pricing this one more in line with its actual value. All of my VIP releases thus far have been grossly underpriced (and on purpose).

With this one, it will still be underpriced – but I want the people who get this to actually make progress with it.

Plus, there’s some very high-level information that I’m sharing in this one.

Stuff that has the power to completely transform your income.

It won’t be a wallet-buster or anything but it won’t be $7, either.

    ALSO – @ Anne:

Kudos and major respect to you and all other moms who are doing this amongst an already crazy schedule.

Sarah and I don’t have any children yet, but based on what I’ve seen from watching both of my brothers (and other friends) have kids – all I can say is that time is definitely your most precious resource!

Couldn’t imagine trying to balance all of that.

My damn dog is enough work as it is :-)

  • 62 skeptic // Feb 21, 2009 at 3:17 am

Youar speech and approach are so salesy. Just proove your value and people will follow. We’re tired of the sales hype and title hype. Your title says “how I etc…” but your article doesn’t say how, just a salesarticle only to sell your report. It’s ok but please stop the hype.
    Look at this guy: cdfnetworks.com
He prooves his value, he gives highly valuable infos, he’s a super affiliate, and his blog is “getting tons of traffic”. No need to overexagerate, people will buy from him if he ever decides to sell a report. So please, stop the BS. It’s Affliging.

  • 63 admin // Feb 21, 2009 at 5:08 am

    Skeptic,

    That’s an interesting perspective.

Maybe you should take a moment to read through one of the 2,000+ comments posted to the various posts on this blog to get an idea of my clients’ experience with me.

Also, this post is “salesy”. So what. It’s a presell for an upcoming report.

The two previous posts were 100% info that led up to this.

See how “salesy” they are BEFORE taking a stab at me.

You’re obviously new on my list.

And in regards to the “BS”…

Are you aware of what that stands for?

It stands for bullshit. Which means lying.

I invite you to do your best to find a single lie across my entire site. Or my entire network of sites.

    I don’t lie.

I tell it like it is.

Skeptic – You picked the wrong guy to lay into… As Chris said, you must be new to his list and aren’t familiar with him or his work….but you should really do your homework before blasting Chris, as his ethics are WAY above the “average” IM notable…in fact his standards and level of integrity is quite high by itself.

As for CDFNetworks – I agree that Chad is also one of the “good guys”, but to be fair his focus is different than what Chris teaches. Chad is almost purely a PPC guy, as he will tell you…

Along with nearly everyone else in these comments, I too am looking forward to the upcoming report…

    Skeptic,
I don’t know if you have bought any of Chris’s products. But if you have bought any of his products you know that Chris is one of few marketers who post original stuff. There are many of Gurus out there who sell the same old stuff with hyped sales letter. You will learn more from the sales letter of The Lazy Marketer than from the products of those so called Gurus.

I don’t have anything against you. Probably you are just frustrated because of all the hyped internet marketing ebook which people are selling. Heck, even I was pissed-off at Chris when I saw the conduity method posted Warrior private forum. But then, it is Chris’s business. He can choose whatever way he wants to run his business. If we don’t like his stuff, we just have to leave.

Is it just me or does it seem no one is able to recommend anything these days without using an affiliate link. No wonder we have to use so many trust seals on our sites these days – to earn back the trust so many affiliates like you have destroyed.

Hey Chris, the most difficult part of the whole equation to me is getting a sales page that actually converts. I mean to me that seems like 99% of the entire equation, do you agree?

  • 85 admin // Mar 9, 2009 at 9:05 pm

    Hi John,

It’s 99% of the equation WHEN you’re selling in a market that’s already proven itself to buy similar offers.

Otherwise the core offer is what’s most important, followed by the copy, followed by traffic generation.

Chris, I’m frothing at the mouth waiting for this product report of yours.

It’s exciting. Thank you for all of the work that you do. It’s eye opening, and straight to the point.

Question: What affiliate networks do you cover in this report?

Is this strictly clickbank only for digital products or do you talk about others?

Do you detail exactly how to recruit affiliates and price products?

What about the actual selling process?

  • 91 Attorney Applebaum // Mar 22, 2009 at 4:17 pm

    Dear Mr. Rempel:

As a 50 year old trial lawyer and partner in a 90 year old law firm, I may be atypical of your demographic for the VIP Confessions line. ( I might fit as propsect on that other thing you do.) But that’s not the point for today’s question.

Part of my work is in the entertainment field. There is a directory, which if I could put the names, etc. in it, with a search function, I could sell a gazillion copies for prices that would be extortionate but for the value of this data. It’s good. But, I don’t have all the data, so I need some research and I also need to outsource the data entry / directory creation, with tweaks by me after delivery from the ghostwriters / data entry folks. Three questions: 1. Can this sort of thing be outsourced for something less than a grand – in your opinion? 2. Where is best place(s) to get cheap, I mean, good value, outsourcing? 3. Any other thoughts that spring to your mind which will help me and others on directory creation.

As a skeptical old cuss who regularly finds tiny holes in any thing and then rips those open further through withering cross-examination…I find your products NOT to be full of holes. If that lacks warmth, I assure you, in my world you just got a bear hug. :-)

There was a question a few days ago.

How much money does it take to apply your program.

Is there a $5Kper month in PPC down the line?

  • 94 admin // Mar 24, 2009 at 1:47 am

    Dear Mr. Applebaum,

Thanks for the bear hug :-)

Here’s some answers for you to get you going in the right direction:

    1. Yes, depending on the job. Data entry and research usually comes pretty darn cheap.

    2. I personally use GetAFreelancer.com and Elance.com. It’s important to SCREEN your applicants and get previous samples, etc. Also, it may be wise to have mini-projects for multiple providers to see how they actually work. Then award the full project to the best provider.

    3. It’s all about the perceived value.

    Here’s a tip:

Create a directory, AS WELL AS the information on how to “use” the resources.

So craft your offer as the ultimate gold-mine of data AND blueprint for how to use it.

This could literally be a 10 minute screen capture video or a 10 page (or whatever) guide.

    The content is what matters.

    Not the “size”.

    Cheers

    -Chris

  • 95 admin // Mar 24, 2009 at 1:48 am

    Gerry,

    I don’t have a program.

I teach affiliate marketing tactics via information products (books, essentially).

The “program” I teach is content creation and business building.

    Thanks

    Subect: “Review Sites”(Conduit-Sites)

Sorry, but I don’t get the hype – building review-sites is easy but where do you get the traffic from if you don’t use PPC?

I mean, organic traffic is ridiculous…Where are the benefits compared to article marketing? Writing keyword targeted articles is much faster.

  • 97 Keith "Direct buy member" // Mar 27, 2009 at 10:10 am

    Hi Chris,
I’m a Bum Marketer, but more importantly I’m a customer of yours. You’ve always over delivered on all of the products you offer.

I am eager to see this new product as I’m tired of doing this grunt work and want to make some real money.

  • 98 Attorney Applebaum // Mar 27, 2009 at 5:18 pm

    Dear Mr. Rempel:

Thank you taking the time to provide me with a highly substantive response.

The answer contained an excellent “angle of value” which should have been my first consideration.

It dawned on me that a core philosophy permates all your lessons: Any base product can be improved by helping the customer use it.

Put on the customer’s shoes. I made a mistake by missing this important tree trying to see the whole woods. I will not make this mistake again.

And, it’s so simple. Guiding my customers, who are recording artists, to use the directory data is as simple as telling them who to call / e-mail first.

Funny how easy it is to miss the simple action, which also happens to be the most important one.

I can not overstate how valuable this exchange has been for me. Eureka moment and all that. I owe you one. Print the following only if you find it appropriate:

If you ever have a question about United States Copyright Rules you are welcome to contact Eric D. Applebaum, Attorney At Law, Springfield, MA at info@musiccopyrightnow.com and I will endeavor to respond with my best answer free of charge.

The unnecessary length and pompous tone of this post will leave little doubt that I am, in fact, licensed to practice law.

  • 99 admin // Mar 31, 2009 at 2:37 pm

    Hahaha :-)

You crack me up, Mr. Applebaum.

Your witty prose would fare quite well to virtually any online audience. One can never underestimate the power of entertainment value.

Especially when it’s blended harmoniously with a profitable topic.

(But that’s getting into a whole other dimension of marketing…)

I will definitely keep your offer in mind as Copyright Law is something I have collided with a few times over the years…

    Thanks again

    Cheers

i bought the “vip product” package when it came out several weeks ago.

unfortunately, i found that the videos don’t play more than about a minute because your server stops sending data after about 150KB.

i verified this many times on many different days. i asked support to provide a download link for the videos. this was done but only as a mega file of 200MB, which is too large for me to download. but i tried.

same problem. server stops sending data after 150KB. i download MBs of stuff routinely from all over the web, but your server is repeatedly problematic.

support says they done all they can for me.

am i really the only person not to be able to view the videos? it seems unlikely. it’s shame, because there’s virtually nothing in the ebook and i was looking forward to this product.

i’d suggest you use kunaki.com to provide your product on DVD (costs about $7 per unit, including shipping). at least that way i’d be able to get access to it. others too, i imagine.

    Hi Stephen,

I’ll upload the DL file to my other host and see if that works out better for you.

Just contact Robert (support) for the new link – I should have it up by tomorrow.

    Thanks

    -Chris

P.S. Only you and one other person has had this issue. It’s strange. Literally hundreds of others have downloaded without any problems…

    Chris or Robert –
Sorry if my previous comment came through twice, or perhaps not at all. Something goofy is happening when I submit a comment … the next page is blank. Can’t tell if it went through or not.

    Just FYI.

Not sure if this is the most suitable topic in which to post my inquiry. I’ve often re-read the lazy affiliate handbook, and the one section I’m keen to use is creating my own application to submit to software directories to promote my website(s).

Chris, you discuss in a section that you’ve used php scripts that can act as a tool
and can be applied to a profitable niche.
By this, do you mean you use this to php scripts to create your own unique stand alone applications?

Incidentally, I watched the video of the ‘BlackMagic’ person. The Multimedia Builder seems like a really good tool. Have you used this?
