I do have one question though. For some local searches those Google Top 10 boxes show up, are these guys any real competition if they show up above all the regular search results?

Hi all,
I tried to build a local directory a couple years back but as a non-programmer & somewhat newbie, could NOT get phpLD working and didn’t know of any other scripts.

I’ve seen a lot of posts, some here & many elsewhere, on how to find a directory script and which one to choose.

So I started a new site to address this need – it’s called DirectoryScriptReviews.com. It may be of help to anyone looking for & trying to evaluate directory software.

John – the Google Maps effect is NOT “across the board”.

If you search for an actual business *name* – not “realtors in Vancouver” or whatever, but “John Smith Realty Vancouver”, you’ll get regular results.

This is the long-tail.

This is where your traffic comes from.
